  • Wake Up Calls

  • Our 16 year old daughter shocked us all, when she decided to run-away. It was the most frightening two and a half days our family ever experienced. Our beautiful child, so gifted and talented, suddenly, did not want anything to do with us. She returned home with a blank look on her face, showing no remorse or even guilt; we immediately took her to a doctor/therapist she had known for years. After getting the full update of events, he teared and told us that he was not able to help her. She had become "self-destructive" and she needed immediate intervention. "What do you mean intervention?". He meant an in-house treatment center. "Do you know of any?". He only knew of one in our state, so off we went to see for ourselves. It was definately not for our daughter! We reached out to our friends, business associates and our families. We made dozens of calls from one state to another. After one full week of agonizing work, we found our answer. We took our daughter right away and felt so blessed that we had indeed found the "right" place. For parents in need, agonizing over this type of decision, it should not be this difficult. The answer should not be so hard to discover. There is help for our children. I am so inspired by the journey I had to take, that I want to share it with other parents. I want to ease some of their burden. I know I will be able to help.
